The Biodiversity Heritage Library improves research methodology by collaboratively making biodiversity literature openly available to the world as part of a global biodiversity community.
BHL also serves as the literature component of the Encyclopedia of Life .

The Field Book Project is a pan-Institutional effort. Within the Smithsonian, collaboration for the project exists between the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), Smithsonian Institution Archives (SIA), Smithsonian Libraries (SIL), and the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Beyond the borders of the Smithsonian, we have gained the support and assistance of several partners.
